2025 BUDGET: Tinubu Budgets N15.09 Billion To Buy Car Tyres, Others, N5.49 Billion To Maintain Presidential Villa

The Federal Government of Nigeria has outlined a significant budgetary allocation of N15.09 billion for the purchase of tyres for various vehicles, including bulletproof cars, Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), operational vehicles, and plain cars, as well as the construction of an office complex designated for Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.

This expenditure is part of the provisions detailed in the 2025 Appropriation Bill, which was recently made public by the Budget Office of the Federation.

Additionally, the State House will allocate N5.49 billion for the annual maintenance of the Presidential Villa. These revelations follow the presentation of the 2025 budget proposal, titled “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The proposed budget outlines a total expenditure of N49.70 trillion, emphasizing key priorities such as defence, infrastructure, and human capital development. However, the budget comes with a projected deficit of N13.39 trillion, which the government plans to finance through borrowing.

In his address to the National Assembly, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing national security and revamping critical infrastructure to foster economic growth and stability. The appropriation bill specifies that the State House, which functions as the administrative headquarters of the executive arm of government, will spend N164 million on the procurement of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, plain cars, jeeps, platform trucks, and other utility and operational vehicles.

Further allocations within the budget include N1.1 billion for the replacement of SUV vehicles and N3.66 billion for the purchase of operational vehicles for the State House. Additionally, N127.86 million has been set aside for acquiring SUVs for the President and Vice President, under the purview of the Office of the President.

The Office of the Chief of Staff to the President will spend N285 million on motor vehicles, while N179.63 million has been allocated for the procurement of security and operational vehicles for the Chief Security Officer to the President. Another notable provision is the N2.12 billion budgeted for honorarium and sitting allowances, alongside N1.83 billion allocated for constructing an office complex for Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.

The 2025 Appropriation Bill also reflects substantial investments in defence and infrastructure. A total of N4.91 trillion has been earmarked for defence and security, while N4.06 trillion has been allocated for infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway.

Other critical sectors, such as education and health, have also been prioritized. Education is set to receive N3.52 trillion, which includes funding for the Universal Basic Education program and the establishment of nine new higher institutions. Meanwhile, the health sector will get N2.48 trillion to improve healthcare delivery systems and ensure the availability of essential drugs in public hospitals.

The budget is based on several key economic assumptions, including a projected reduction in inflation from the current rate of 34.6% to 15%. It also anticipates an improvement in the naira’s exchange rate from N1,700 to the dollar to N1,500 to the dollar, reflecting the government’s optimistic economic outlook for the upcoming fiscal year.
