President Bola Tinubu has called on candidates dissatisfied with the outcome of the Ondo State governorship election to seek redress through the judicial system, emphasizing the importance of following legal avenues to address grievances.
In a statement, the President congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his victory and commended the peaceful conduct of the election process.
He also praised candidates from the 17 other political parties for their maturity and sense of purpose during the campaigns and the election, attributing the overall success of the polls to the civility demonstrated across the state.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a statement urging political actors to maintain decorum in post-election activities. “Those dissatisfied with the outcome of the election can explore the opportunities provided by the judicial system to seek redress on areas of conflict,” the statement read.
President Tinubu described the Ondo State election as a critical test of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) capabilities. He commended INEC for its efficient planning, timely deployment of personnel and materials, and its handling of the electoral process.
Highlighting the technological advancements, the President applauded INEC for achieving over 98% result uploads on the same day as the election, underscoring the body’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The President also extended his gratitude to the Nigerian Police Force, National Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Youth Service Corps, the military, and other security agencies for their professionalism in maintaining peace and order during the election. Their efforts, he noted, contributed to the smooth and credible conduct of the exercise.
