Sir Jude Emecheta, the former Managing Director and CEO of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSSAA), has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for initiating the long-awaited dualization and construction of the 16.51-kilometer Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija Road. The project includes a 370-meter spur and a three-span bridge across the Ulasi River in Okija, a significant development aimed at boosting the economic activities of the communities.
Speaking to NewdayReporters on Sunday, Dr. Emecheta described the road project as crucial for the economic well-being of Nnewi, Ozubulu and its surrounding areas. “I just learnt that markings for demolition and actual demolitions have started along the Nnobi-Nnewi axis,” he noted.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for prioritizing this vital infrastructure project, acknowledging the challenges it might pose to business owners along the road. “I want to thank the Governor for remembering such an economically important project and dedicating efforts to alleviate the suffering of our people,” he said. Dr. Emecheta appealed to those affected by the demolition to view the project as a sacrifice for the greater good.
“I urge everyone affected to act swiftly and evacuate their valuables to avoid last-minute rushes that could result in losses when the demolition begins in full force. Development often comes with sacrifices, but it is for the benefit of all,” he added.
Dr. Emecheta also cautioned investors in Nnewi and Ozubulu against constructing buildings too close to the road. He advised maintaining a standard distance of at least 19 meters from the road to allow for potential future expansions. “Even if it’s a street road, ensure reasonable spacing,” he emphasized.
He further urged prospective land buyers to conduct thorough investigations before purchasing properties near major roads to avoid potential losses during future road expansions.
While demolition activities have commenced earnestly along the busy Nnewi-Ozubulu road, Dr. Emecheta emphasized the need for swift action from contractors to complete the project promptly. The outcome of this initiative, he noted, would significantly enhance the infrastructure and economic landscape of Nnewi, Ozubulu and environs.
