President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s awareness of the significant economic challenges Nigerians currently face. He expressed this understanding through a statement delivered on his behalf by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Akume shared Tinubu’s message during a church service celebrating the 70th birthday of Pastor Tunde Bakare, held at The Citadel in Lagos State.
According to Akume, while Tinubu recognizes the hardships experienced by citizens, he is confident that the country is progressing in the right direction. “The President acknowledges that times are hard, but at the end of the tunnel, there is always light,” Akume stated.
He further remarked, “Solutions to complex problems can never be as instant as coffee, but we are on the right track.”
The current economic challenges, which have strained daily life for many Nigerians, stem largely from recent reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the shift to a floating exchange rate for the Naira. While these moves have had immediate economic impacts, the Presidency maintains that they are necessary steps to revive and stabilize the economy in the long term.
In his tribute to Pastor Bakare, Tinubu praised him as “a beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless,” commending Bakare’s longstanding commitment to justice, integrity, and social reform. Tinubu noted Bakare’s influence as both a spiritual leader and an advocate for national progress.
Joining in the celebration were other prominent leaders, including the Governors of Lagos and Ogun States, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun, who also acknowledged Pastor Bakare’s enduring contributions to the political and spiritual spheres of Nigeria.
