Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has voiced strong confidence that Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 election, will secure a win in the 2027 presidential race. Yunusa believes that Obi’s distinguished record and overwhelming public support lay the foundation for victory.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, at a symposium on good governance organized by the Obidient Movement for the Southeast region, Yunusa expressed hope for a fair electoral process in 2027. “History will not repeat itself,” he declared.
He argued that Obi’s rightful victory was denied in 2023 due to electoral malpractices, but this time, the movement would ensure transparency and fair play.
Yunusa outlined plans to advocate for electoral reforms, enhance the presence of polling agents nationwide, and push for a more independent electoral system by urging the appointment of the INEC chairman through public consensus rather than presidential nomination.
He further criticized the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting unmet expectations across various regions, which he believes has boosted Obi’s chances for the next election.
Professor Pat Utomi, delivering the keynote speech at the symposium, emphasized that achieving change requires a united and dedicated effort, describing the movement as a collective sacrifice for the nation’s future. “Together, we can make Nigeria a new one,” Utomi stated, encouraging attendees to stay committed to their goals for the country.
Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke, convener of the Peter Obi Support Network and Chairman of the symposium’s Planning Committee, explained that the event aimed to strengthen the Obidient Movement’s influence in the South-East and fortify its partnerships with local support groups in Anambra State.
The focus, Ezeoke noted, was on strategic planning to maximize the movement’s impact and drive meaningful development.
Several Labour Party governorship aspirants, including Chief Valentine Ozigbo, Chief John Nwosu, and Chief Ikenna Azomcine, also addressed the gathering. They underscored the importance of good governance, promising transformative leadership for Anambra State if given the mandate.
