Evangelist Ebuka Obi, leader of the Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, recently shared three significant promises he made to God before founding his ministry, which has since gained widespread popularity.
In an interview with Sun, Evangelist Obi disclosed that he has remained a virgin and intends to abstain from sexual relations until marriage, following a commitment he made as a young man.
Obi explained that his decision was influenced by Rev. Fr. Luke Odinkemmelu, a Catholic priest who advised him in his early years. The priest encouraged him to remain celibate until marriage as a way to preserve God’s grace and power within him. “He told me not to have sex until I marry,” Obi shared.
“He said that to sustain God’s grace, I should not sleep with a woman until I get married. That instruction has guided me, and I promised God that I would keep it. I’ve never had sex before.”
Obi also revealed that his ministry, Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, operates solely as a prayer ground rather than a church. This decision also aligns with Fr. Odinkemmelu’s guidance. According to Obi, the priest foresaw a future where he would speak to millions of people but cautioned him against establishing a church.
“He told me to stay within the Catholic Church where I was born and not open a separate church,” Obi explained.
The priest’s third piece of advice emphasized humility and a focus away from financial gain. “He told me not to be money-minded,” Obi recalled. “He assured me that if I stayed true to these three principles—remaining celibate until marriage, not establishing a church, and not being driven by money—I would achieve great things.”
In line with these commitments, Evangelist Obi confirmed that Zion Prayer Movement Outreach is strictly a place for prayer gatherings. It does not perform baptisms or conduct church weddings, as it is not a church in the traditional sense. Instead, he sees it as a fulfillment of his promise to focus solely on spiritual guidance without creating a separate religious institution.
