The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced a 40-day period of prayer and fasting across the country, intended to seek divine intervention for Nigeria’s economic hardships and to invoke blessings of relief and prosperity for its citizens.
PFN President Bishop Francis Wale Oke, alongside Deputy President Archbishop John Daniel, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. They outlined that the nationwide prayer and fasting program would commence on January 6, 2025, concluding with a national prayer gathering in Abuja on February 14, 2025.
Bishop Oke highlighted that these prayers will lead up to the PFN’s 18th Biennial Conference, set to take place in Abuja from February 10 to February 14, 2025, under the theme “The Rebirth of a Great Nation: Nigeria is Great.”
The PFN is calling on Pentecostal churches, Christian believers, and all willing Nigerians to join together in prayers for the country’s renewal and revival.
The conference will also feature prominent speakers, who will address key national issues and provide guidance on ways to tackle Nigeria’s current challenges. According to Oke, the country’s difficulties are a shared responsibility of both its leaders and citizens. Through unity and dedication, he believes that Nigeria can emerge from its current economic and social struggles.
Reflecting on biblical teachings, Oke cited the story of Nineveh, where a unified plea for mercy by both the king and citizens led to divine intervention. “We believe that the same God who delivered Nineveh is alive today and will hear our cry. This period of prayer and fasting is an essential part of our biennial conference. We are confident that God will answer our prayers,” he said.
He also emphasized that Nigeria’s issues are not solely the leaders’ responsibility but are shared by all Nigerians. “Together, through cooperation and commitment, we can bring Nigeria out of hardship. Our role is to pray, educate, and support solutions at every level.”
Commenting on Nigeria’s current hardships, Oke compared the situation to a mother enduring the pains of childbirth. “We are going through a painful process, but we believe that a new Nigeria will emerge.”
Archbishop John Daniel also expressed the PFN’s steadfast dedication to Nigeria’s progress and peace, sharing optimism that the country is on the verge of greatness. “Despite the challenges, Nigeria is on the path to achieving greatness. We envision a future where Nigeria serves as a model for the world. Through prayer and fasting, we believe God will heal our nation.”
He continued, quoting scripture, “The Bible says the prayer of faith can save the sick. Nigeria, like a nation in need of healing, will be saved. We foresee a future filled with prosperity, economic strength, and peace. The issues of kidnapping, banditry, and bloodshed will become a thing of the past, and Nigeria will fulfil its destiny as a great nation.”
