No Need To Complain About Fuel Price, You Have Option, You Can Buy Petrol At N1,000 Per Litre Or CNG At N200 Per Meter, The Choice Is Yours – Tinubu Tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigerian motorists now have the choice of purchasing petrol at N1,000 per litre or opting for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200 per Standard Cubic Meter. This was revealed during a meeting held on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja, where the president met with the executives of the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO).

During the meeting, Tinubu praised NIPCO for its significant contributions to Nigeria’s energy transition efforts, particularly through its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). The president recognized NIPCO as a key player in driving the adoption of CNG as an alternative to petrol, aligning with the administration’s broader strategy for energy security and economic diversification.

Tinubu emphasized the crucial role that public-private partnerships play in advancing Nigeria’s shift to cleaner and more affordable energy solutions. He commended NIPCO for its leadership in promoting the “Switch to CNG” campaign, which has been instrumental in raising public awareness and making CNG conversion kits more accessible, even before the formal launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative.

He stressed the importance of this initiative in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on petrol and helping consumers lower their fuel costs. CNG, being both a cleaner and more affordable fuel option, is expected to decrease the country’s carbon emissions while saving motorists substantial amounts on fuel.

The president highlighted that, as part of these efforts, incentives have been introduced to encourage commercial motorists to convert their vehicles from petrol to gas, with the conversion process being offered at no cost. According to Tinubu, motorists now have the option to either continue purchasing petrol at N1,000 per litre or switch to CNG at a significantly cheaper rate of N200 per Standard Cubic Meter.

Bayo Onanuga, the Presidential spokesman, quoted Tinubu as reaffirming the administration’s commitment to fostering an environment that supports private sector investments and expands Nigeria’s CNG infrastructure. This is aimed at improving energy efficiency and stimulating economic growth.

The president urged NIPCO to continue its innovative approach to CNG development and to align with the government’s broader objectives in the energy sector. Tinubu expressed confidence that the company’s efforts would play a significant role in Nigeria’s ongoing energy transition.

Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, a director of NIPCO, who led the delegation, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support of the CNG sector. He reaffirmed NIPCO’s commitment to collaborating with the government to ensure the success of Nigeria’s energy transition and pledged the company’s readiness to invest in the necessary infrastructure to make CNG more widely available across the country. Kasangra noted that NIPCO has been a major player in various sectors in Nigeria for over 40 years and remains committed to the country’s long-term development.
