President Bola Tinubu has announced a 30-day national conference aimed at bringing together Nigerian youths to discuss and address the challenges they face. He made this announcement during his speech on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, emphasizing the importance of engaging young people in nation-building.
In his second Independence Day broadcast since assuming office on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu stressed that the future of Nigeria lies in the hands of its youth. He noted that over 60% of the country’s population consists of young people, and it is essential to involve them in designing policies that shape their future. Tinubu expressed his commitment to ensuring that the younger generation becomes active participants in creating a better Nigeria.
He announced the National Youth Conference as a platform to address key issues affecting the youth, including education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice. The conference aims to stimulate meaningful dialogue and provide young Nigerians with the opportunity to play a more significant role in policy formulation and nation-building.
The President revealed that the modalities for the conference, including the selection of delegates, will be developed in collaboration with youth representatives to ensure that their voices are adequately heard. The conference will focus on generating practical solutions to the various challenges the country’s youth face, and the government will carefully consider and implement the recommendations made.
Tinubu reiterated that his administration is dedicated to reforming Nigeria’s political and economic systems, as well as its defence architecture, to ensure the nation’s survival and growth. He praised the resilience of the Nigerian people, noting that despite facing numerous crises, the country has remained united, unlike other nations that have succumbed to similar challenges.
The President further stated that his government is determined to win the fight against banditry and terrorism, ensuring that displaced farmers can return to their lands to help increase food production and reduce rising food costs.
