In a decisive outcome for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), opposition parties including the APC, PDP, and Labour Party faced significant losses in the September 28, 2024, local government elections in Anambra State. APGA emerged victorious, sweeping all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 21 local government areas and the 326 wards of the state.
During a press briefing on Sunday, Genevieve Osakwe, the Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), officially declared that APGA won all 21 chairmanship seats and secured all 326 councillorship positions at the ward level. Osakwe described the election as one of the fairest in the state’s history, emphasizing that the commission took great care in collating and analyzing the results to ensure their accuracy.
In her address, Osakwe detailed the total votes secured by APGA candidates, affirming them as winners due to their receiving the highest number of votes cast in their respective areas. She commended the citizens of Anambra for their impressive voter turnout and extended her appreciation to the security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the election process.
Osakwe stated, “This is to confirm the results of the chairmanship and councillorship elections held on September 28, 2024. The commission meticulously collated and analyzed the results to avoid any errors.
“All scores and party results were announced at the polling units yesterday, and we are here today to affirm the results as recorded. The election, held across all polling units in Anambra State, was free, fair, and credible.”
