President Bola Tinubu has instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide assistance to flood victims in parts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
In a statement released on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed deep concern over the flooding that has affected the region.
The flood, caused by the overflow of the Alo Dam, has displaced many residents, damaging homes, schools, hospitals, and business facilities in the northeastern state.
The President offered his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno, especially to families who have lost loved ones and livelihoods due to the disaster. He also urged for the immediate evacuation of those living in the affected areas.
As damage assessments continue, Tinubu assured Governor Babagana Zulum of the Federal Government’s readiness to collaborate with the state to meet the immediate humanitarian needs of the displaced.
He reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing federal resources to support Borno State in the wake of this crisis.
