Chief Ugochukwu Obiefuna, the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has said that the recent Court of Appeal judgment effectively nails the coffin of Edozie Njoku’s illegitimate claims to the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking to NewdayReporters today, Chief Obiefuna revealed that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal overturned previous rulings in favor of Edozie Njoku and his associates, granting permission to APGA, led by Sly Ezeokenwa, and Victor Oye to appeal to the Supreme Court.
He explained that this appeal contests the Court of Appeal’s June 28, 2024 judgment, which Njoku has used to decieve his gullible followers and lay claim to the national leadership of APGA.
Chief Ugochukwu further revealed that the Court of Appeal also criticized Njoku and his cohort for excluding APGA from the case, despite it concerning the party’s national leadership.
He further explained that Njoku and his group had strongly opposed the appeal, contending that the appeal was an abuse of court process and that Ezeokenwa and Oye were defying the court’s judgment. However, The Court of Appeal rejected these arguments in three cases, Application Nos: CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/723MI/2024, CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/728MI/2024, and CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/870MI/2024, stating that; Sly Ezeokenwa, as the National Chairman, has a legitimate interest in the matter, that APGA, which had been excluded from the case, now has the right to appeal, that since Ezeokenwa and APGA were not parties to the original case, they cannot be said to be disobeying the judgment being appealed, that the proposed appeal to the Supreme Court by APGA, Ezeokenwa, and Oye raises valid legal issues and errors in the judgment, and that the new case filed at the Federal High Court regarding INEC and Njoku is valid and not an abuse of court process, as it concerns INEC’s authority to substitute names without a court order.
Chief Obiefuna emphasized that this ruling marks the end of Njoku’s illegitimate attempt to seize control of APGA, adding that, with the Supreme Court now poised to address the issues, Ezeokenwa, the legitimate National Chairman, will have the opportunity to resolve the long standing leadership dispute that has marred the party over the years and restore the party to it’s glorious heights.
He adds that this will end the ongoing legal battles that have hindered the party’s progress and definitively close the chapter on Njoku’s continuous show of shame.
He urged Njoku and his co-travelers to cease their illegitimate claims to APGA’s leadership, as they lack legal standing, warning them to stop parading themselves as party executives, else, they will be made to face the law.
