In a disturbing incident in Cross River State, a young woman known as Pretty Goddess has been accused of luring her friend, identified as Debit Queen, to a hotel where she violently assaulted her, stripped her naked, and posted videos of the attack online.
According to reports, the incident, which has sparked outrage across social media, took place on Thursday evening. The attack allegedly stemmed from Pretty Goddess discovering that Debit Queen was involved with her boyfriend, Ralph.
Pretending to arrange a friendly meeting, Pretty Goddess invited Debit Queen to a local hotel in Calabar, the state’s capital. Unaware of the true motive, Debit Queen arrived at the hotel, where she was ambushed by Pretty Goddess and three other girls. The confrontation quickly escalated as Pretty Goddess accused Debit Queen of having an affair with her boyfriend.
The situation turned violent when Pretty Goddess and her friends began beating Debit Queen. The attack included flogging her with a cane, stripping her naked, and recording the incident on video. Pretty Goddess later uploaded these videos online, showing Debit Queen in a compromising state. The videos have been trending on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for over 48 hours.
In retaliation, another popular blogger on X posted nude videos of Pretty Goddess, tagging several other blogs in the process. This response has added to the public outcry and condemnation of the incident.
Debit Queen, recounting her ordeal in a video shared on X by a popular blog, expressed her shock at the brutal treatment she received. She claimed that she was unaware of any conflict involving Pretty Goddess’s boyfriend and denied the allegations of infidelity. “There were four girls in the room,” she said. “There was nothing I could do. She was with her friends, and I was alone.”
She further explained that Pretty Goddess had invited her under false pretenses, initially claiming the meeting was for a house party. “She said there was a party, and I agreed to go. When I arrived, she began beating me,” Debit Queen recounted. She denied knowing Ralph personally, stating, “I know him, but he is not my friend. I have not seen him before. I didn’t sleep with him. It is untrue that I was caught sleeping with her boyfriend.
”In a controversial move to justify her actions, Pretty Goddess admitted to luring Debit Queen to the hotel and assaulting her. She claimed her actions were driven by anger after discovering that Debit Queen had been in contact with her boyfriend. “I checked my boyfriend’s phone and saw that he had her number, which he didn’t have before. I also noticed they had been chatting recently,” she explained. She added that her anger was further fueled by the belief that Debit Queen had slept with her boyfriend. Pretty Goddess insisted that the assault was not premeditated and that the intensity of the attack was due to her rage. “I didn’t plan to beat her up. It was anger. All I wanted to know was if she had my boyfriend’s number,” she said. She also mentioned that while she initially intended to keep the video private, it was accidentally shared by her friends.
In an apology to Debit Queen, Pretty Goddess stated, “I am very sorry. I didn’t mean to take it this far. I will take care of anything you want and do anything you want. Please, find a place in your heart to forgive me.
”Police Investigation Initiated. The Cross River State Police, under the leadership of Commissioner Augustine Grimah, has responded swiftly to the incident.
Following the viral spread of the assault video, the police have launched an immediate investigation and called for the arrest of the perpetrator. Grimah condemned the act, highlighting the severe physical assault and trauma involved. “The arrest will assist the police in ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” he stated.
In a statement to Sunday PUNCH by the police command’s spokesperson, Iren Ugbo, Grimah emphasized the importance of vigilance within the hospitality industry to prevent such incidents. “We urge hotels to conduct thorough background checks on guests to prevent such incidents,” the statement read. The police also confirmed that Debit Queen is receiving medical attention in a hospital in Calabar due to injuries sustained during the assault. Authorities have pledged to keep the public updated on the investigation’s progress.
The incident has sparked a fierce reaction on social media platforms. Many users expressed outrage over the brutal assault and public humiliation suffered by Debit Queen. The responses have ranged from calls for legal action to widespread condemnation of Pretty Goddess’s behavior. On X, user @FGirlrita wrote, “I’ve never seen someone carry a cane and beat someone like that. Even if there were five of them, I’d still stand up to them. This is unacceptable.” Another user, @AgbakaEye, called for immediate action, stating, “They need to arrest that girl. What is this?” A user named Samuel commented, “That girl needs to be taught a lesson. I’m personally working on it!!” Chima Echefule also expressed support for legal action, saying, “She needs to be arrested for such an act.
”The sharing of explicit videos online has only amplified public outrage, with many condemning it as a severe violation of privacy and dignity.
In Nigeria, assault is governed by several legal frameworks, including the Penal Code, the Criminal Code, and specific state laws. These laws define assault as any form of force or threat used against another person without their consent. The Penal Code, applicable in Northern Nigeria, includes both physical violence and threats of harm as forms of assault. In Southern Nigeria, the Criminal Code distinguishes between different types of assault, such as common assault and more severe forms that result in actual bodily harm.
A human rights lawyer, Mrs. Selena Onuoha, commented on the incident, stating that Pretty Goddess’s actions could be classified as assault under Nigerian law. “If the flogging caused physical injury, it would be considered assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Even in the absence of visible injury, the use of force without consent constitutes assault,” she explained.
Mrs. Onuoha further noted that the legal consequences for such actions could include criminal charges, with potential penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment, depending on the severity of the assault and local laws. She added that Debit Queen might seek civil remedies, such as compensation for the harm suffered. “Victims of assault are encouraged to file reports with the police, who will investigate the matter and take appropriate legal actions based on the evidence. Legal counsel is also recommended to understand one’s rights and available options,” she concluded.
