JUST IN: Fear In Abia As Over 500 Persons Dump Labour Party, PDP, Decamps To APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has experienced a significant influx of new members, with over 500 individuals defecting from other political parties, including the Labour Party (LP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Young People’s Party (YPP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Bende Federal Constituency.

This mass defection occurred during the visit of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, to various wards in the constituency.

Kalu’s tour, which began on August 3, 2024, aimed to express gratitude to the people for their support in the last general election and to identify their immediate needs.

So far, Kalu has visited five wards, including Item Ward A, B, C; Ugwueke/Ezeukwu and Itumbauzo Wards, where he welcomed over 400 new members into the APC. His visit to Alayi Ward on Monday evening saw the defection of over 100 individuals from PDP, APGA, LP, and YPP to APC.

Notable defectors included former PDP councillors, Hon. Enoch Elekwa and Hon. Chukwu Udensi, as well as former LP ward chairman, Hon. Jonah Chukwu, and former APGA local government chairman, Ndubuisi Sunday Agu.

On Tuesday, Kalu’s visit to Umuhu Ezechi Ward witnessed the defection of over 100 individuals from PDP and other political parties to APC. Dr. Paul Chikezie Mba, a former commissioner and Bende local government chairman, praised Kalu’s performance as a parliamentarian, citing his numerous projects and initiatives in the constituency.

Mba expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law and promised massive support for APC in the ward.

Kalu, in his remarks, thanked the people for their support and urged them to continue backing President Tinubu, emphasizing the benefits of the SEDC commission in creating employment and addressing infrastructural needs.

The Deputy Speaker also distributed bags of rice, fertilizers, and cash donations to various groups in the area, including youth, women, and men’s groups. Similar defections occurred during Kalu’s visit to Ozuitem ward, where over 100 individuals from LP, PDP, APGA, and YPP joined the APC.
