Joy In Anambra As Governor Soludo Inaugurated ANSIEC Board, Commission To Set Date, Conduct First Local Government Election Since 2014

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, inaugurated the Members of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC). This move aligns with his campaign pledge to conduct local government elections in the state within the first two years of his tenure.

The newly sworn-in Commission members are:

– Magistrate Chinelo Genevive Osakwe, Chairman

– Mrs. Bernardine Obande FCA, Member
– Barr. Osita Cyril Igbokwe, Member
– Sir Chinedu Anthony Nnalue, Member
– Helen Ifeyinwa Umeh, Member
– Mr. John Emeka Okeke, Member

The Commission’s responsibilities include setting the date for local government elections and overseeing the organization and conduct of peaceful and transparent local government polls in Anambra State.

The Commission is expected to begin its duties immediately.

Meanwhile, the state’s political landscape is becoming increasingly vibrant, especially among the youth. Many high-profile individuals have shown interest in running for the position of local government chairman across the state.

In Idemili North alone, over 40 individuals have publicly declared their intention to vie for the chairman position, Newday Reporters has learnt.
