Tinubu’s Speech: Protest Continues, Organisers Deliberate On Next Step
Mr. Ajala Adetunji, the Osun Coordinator of the Coalition of Concerned Nigeria Citizens, the group leading the protests, stated that the presidential appeal to suspend the protests will be reviewed by all parties involved.
He emphasized that the protest is a collective effort, particularly in Osun State, and not a single individual’s decision.
Adetunji expressed disappointment that President Tinubu’s address did not specifically address the concerns and demands of the youth, leaving the appeal for dialogue open-ended without clear indicators of action.
He confirmed that the protest will continue in Osun State as it stands, pending further deliberation.
Waheed Lawal, Chairman of the Osun People’s Coalition Society, another group participating in the protest, also stated that the presidential appeal will be discussed by the various groups involved.
Lawal emphasized that the protest is a nationwide effort, and Nigerians must collectively decide the next course of action.
Lawal shared Adetunji’s sentiment, feeling that the President’s address did not adequately address the protesters’ demands.
He acknowledged that the masses will ultimately decide how to proceed.
This development comes after President Tinubu’s national address on Sunday, where he appealed to the protest organizers to suspend their actions due to the violence and destruction experienced over the past three days.
Despite this, protesters gathered at Freedom Park in Osogbo and marched through the streets, continuing the nationwide protest.
