Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed rumors of extramarital affairs, asserting his satisfaction with his wife, Ekaette Akpabio.
Akpabio recently attracted media attention due to his choice of words during an exchange with Kogi lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on the Senate floor.
Additionally, there have been rumors alleging that the former Akwa Ibom State governor has romantic relationships with several popular female personalities.
Addressing both the incident with Akpoti-Uduaghan and the rumors, Akpabio offered an apology to the lawmaker, attributing the situation to a communication breakdown. “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman, and I always pray that God will uplift women,” Akpabio stated.
“Distinguished Senator Natasha, I want to apologize to you. The interest shown on social media indicates that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I did not mean any harm.
People should focus on things that will move this country forward. Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t regulate social media out of anger.”
Regarding the rumors of multiple girlfriends, Akpabio said, “I don’t want to discuss what has been done to me, as I don’t deserve it. In my tradition, we marry only one wife. They listed numerous wives on social media, making it appear as if the Senate President has many wives. But I am reporting to my colleagues that I have only one wife, and I am satisfied with that one.”
