The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulahi Umar Ganduje, announced on Sunday that the party’s primary objective is to gain control over Abia, Enugu, and Anambra states.
This statement was made during the APC South East Stakeholder’s Meeting held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.
Ganduje emphasized the importance of unity among APC stakeholders in the South East to achieve this goal. He highlighted that the APC has started implementing its blueprint to address the marginalization of the South East region.
This plan aims to ensure that the people of the region benefit significantly from the current administration and become more integrated into the national political landscape.
He stressed the need for a collective effort to break the cycle of marginalization. Ganduje urged the party members to uphold internal democracy, understand the party’s constitution, and support the upcoming electronic registration process. He also mentioned that the party would review each polling unit to assess APC membership registrations.
According to him, all hands must be on deck in order for the vicious circle of marginalisation to be broken against all odds.
“For us to takeover Enugu, Anambra and Abia States, we must unite and uphold internal democracy and understand the constitution of our Party. We will soon start electronic registration. We will examine each polling unit to know the one that has registered for APC.
“We urge you (Ebonyi) to continue with this vigor until South East is brought into that political limelight.”
The Executive Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the South-East Governor’s Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, also addressed the meeting.
He acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians and asked for patience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Uzodinma called on the South East people to refrain from protests and unrest, assuring them that the government’s economic policies would eventually bring prosperity.
Uzodinma claimed that the current unrest and protests were being incited by politicians who lost in the 2023 general elections.
He praised Governor Nwifuru for converting Ebonyi State into a one-party state and emphasized the need for hope and unity among the people. He warned against eating alone, metaphorically suggesting that communal efforts lead to greater success.
The host of the meeting, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, underscored the importance of unity, peace, and cooperation among the people of Ebonyi, regardless of political affiliation.
He argued that peace is essential for the state’s development and expressed commitment to sustaining democracy and resolving internal party issues.
Nwifuru urged party members to prioritize peaceful resolutions and sacrifices over conflict, noting that no one has a monopoly on violence.
He reiterated the need for inclusivity within the party and stated that those opposing the party from within would be expelled.
