An irate mob killed a young man identified simply as Yunusa over allegations of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on Wednesday in Nasaru village, Ningi local government area of Bauchi State.
According to reports, Yunusa made the alleged blasphemous remarks during a heated argument with his friends, which attracted the attention of bystanders.
“The victim was a member of the Faira Islamic Sect, and he was heard speaking words that insulted the Prophet. Some young men challenged Yunusa to withdraw his statement, but he refused and even repeated the remarks. That was when they began beating him,” a witness stated.
The situation escalated quickly, and despite efforts by police personnel to rescue Yunusa, they were overwhelmed by the mob. The attackers used stones, sticks, and other objects to fatally assault him.
Further reports indicate that the mob attempted to set fire to the police station in the village when officers tried to protect Yunusa there. As of the time of this report, the police have yet to issue an official response to the incident.
