Former President Olusegun Obasanjo met with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Monday. The meeting was publicized by the First Lady’s media aide, Busola Kukoyi, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Kukoyi shared photos of Obasanjo and Mrs. Tinubu and wrote, “Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the Former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday 17th June.”
This visit occurred just 48 hours after Obasanjo was seen wearing a cap with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia.
Media outlets reported a video of Obasanjo at an event attended by African dignitaries, where he was donning the branded cap.
Despite both hailing from the Southwest geopolitical zone, Obasanjo and Tinubu belong to different political affiliations. During the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.
Before the election, Tinubu visited Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, seeking an endorsement, but Obasanjo chose to back Obi instead.
Additionally, Obasanjo has been critical of President Tinubu’s administration, particularly regarding its handling of ongoing reforms and the coup d’etat in Niger Republic.
