JUST IN: Rivers State Government Refutes  Judgment Declaring Amaewhule-Led Lawmakers As PDP Members

The Rivers State government has refuted claims that a High Court in Port Harcourt ruled the 27 lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Dagogo Israel Iboroma, clarified that the legal case in question did not aim to declare the seats of Amaewhule and the other 26 lawmakers vacant.

Iboroma stated: “As the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the third defendant in SUIT NO DHC/20/CS/2024, I have been made aware of a recent judgment.

This case did not seek to vacate the seats of Martins Amaewhule and the 26 others in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“The claimants’ suit was dismissed due to a lack of locus standi and jurisdiction, and for being an abuse of the court process, which prevented the trial court from having the jurisdiction to rule on the matter.

“There are false reports circulating on social media, and in print and electronic media, suggesting that Martins Amaewhule and 26 others are members of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
