On Sunday, the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, criticized state governors for their refusal to accept the proposed N60,000 minimum wage and instead offering N57,000, which he deemed insufficient to alleviate the country’s hardships.
Ayodele condemned the governors, labeling them as heartless and inhumane for neglecting to improve workers’ lives.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Primate Ayodele emphasized that the meager wages workers receive contribute to the prevalent insecurity in many Nigerian states.
He urged governors to reconsider their stance and prioritize the welfare of workers.
Ayodele expressed dismay at the disparity between the meager wages workers receive and the lavish allowances enjoyed by politicians, highlighting it as a significant cause of discontent and insecurity.
He stressed the need for a review of workers’ salaries to reflect their contributions and to mitigate the socio-economic challenges they face.
Regarding recent actions taken by labor unions, Primate Ayodele criticized the shutdown of the national grid during demonstrations over the minimum wage, cautioning against actions that could jeopardize the safety of innocent citizens.
He advised unions to find alternative means of expressing grievances without adversely affecting the general population.
