Human Traffickers Are Worse Than Ordinary Drug Barons, Diaspora Commission Boss Abike Dabiri Explains

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has expressed strong condemnation of human traffickers, asserting that they are more reprehensible than drug barons.

In a post on the social media platform X on Saturday, Dabiri-Erewa called for human traffickers to be publicly exposed and disgraced.

She stated, “Honestly. The traffickers need to be named and shamed,” which followed her previous day’s post featuring a video of Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.

She further emphasized, “They (Human traffickers) are worse than drug barons!! And as long as they are walking about freely, innocent young children will continue to be trafficked!”

However, not all agreed with her stance. A follower on X, @idealist90, countered her statement, arguing, “Traffickers are not worse than drug barons. Both are not different. If you support a drug baron, you are not different from a trafficker himself.”

Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa is part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Tinubu has been involved in a controversy related to a cocaine trafficking scandal from the 1990s, in which he forfeited $460,000 to the U.S. government.

This case resurfaced in public discourse shortly after Tinubu announced his presidential candidacy in 2022.

In that year, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois released new documents detailing Tinubu’s interactions with American authorities regarding allegations of narcotics trafficking and money laundering.
