The Kano State government, led by Abba Yusuf, has stated that the reinstatement of the former Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido II, as the Emir of Kano, is intended to promote the welfare and unity of the state’s people.
This announcement was made in a statement by Baba Halilu Dantiye, the state’s Commissioner of Information, on Monday.
The Yusuf administration also voiced its concerns about the widespread media reports that had amplified the public’s reactions to the emirship dispute.
The statement reads, “Given the current tense situation in the state, it is necessary to alleviate public fears following these reports, reassure them of the government’s dedication to protecting their lives and properties, and correct the inaccuracies in the media by presenting the true situation on the ground.
“Contrary to media reports, there have been no widespread violent protests in Kano State. While the government acknowledges isolated incidents in a few areas involving a handful of small children and hired miscreants and thugs, these do not accurately reflect the overall situation.
“These hired, unpatriotic individuals aim only to destabilize the state for the personal gain and selfish interests of their paymasters. The vast majority of Kano State citizens have shown remarkable restraint and understanding of the sincere actions taken by the state government.
“It is also important to reiterate that the decision by the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf to legally abrogate the emirates and reinstate the 14th Emir of Kano State was made after careful consideration of the state’s best interests.
“This move has been welcomed by a significant portion of the populace who appreciate the long-term benefits of a unified emirate structure.”
“The actions of these individuals and their agents do not represent the genuine feelings of the citizens of Kano State; instead, they are driven by selfish ulterior motives.
“The administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Kano State. The government will not shirk its responsibility to take all necessary measures to ensure that law and order are upheld and the rights of citizens are protected,” the statement added.
The government urged the public to disregard “the sensational and grossly exaggerated media reports and support the government’s efforts to create a more cohesive and unified state. It also called on the media to practice responsible journalism and verify facts before publishing any reports that could cause unnecessary tension.”
“The Kano State government under the leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to the progress and development of the state and calls on all citizens to join hands in this regard,” the statement concluded.
