Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has responded to the reinstatement of his close friend, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the Emir of Kano by the Kano State government.
Sanusi II was removed from his position in 2020 by the previous administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, citing various allegations.
This event strained the relationship between El-Rufai and Ganduje. After Sanusi II’s removal, El-Rufai played a role in securing his release from house arrest in Nasarawa State and facilitated his relocation to Lagos.
Now, four years later, current Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reinstated Sanusi II following the repeal of the Kano State Emirates Law 2019 and the enactment of the Kano Emirate Law 2024 by the State House of Assembly.
Governor Yusuf stated that the decision aims to restore the emirate to its pre-2019 status before it was divided into five Emirates.
El-Rufai, reacting from the United States, posted a cryptic message on his Facebook page, seemingly alluding to the developments in the Kano Emirate.
