Joe Ajero, the political president of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), must step down from his position since he was unable to uphold the integrity of the union office.
Instead of allowing the office to be manipulated by politicians for political gain and targeting states that he perceives as obstacles to his political ambitions in Imo state’s 2027 governorship election, he should focus on the core responsibilities of the union.
Joe Ajero’s despicable attempt to victimize and blackmail Governor Soludo into accepting his hidden agenda in the ongoing negotiations between NLC and FG is unacceptable.
It is regretful to see someone prioritizing personal gain over the well-being of ordinary Nigerians. The “political” Ajero should focus on addressing the real issues affecting the people rather than trying to stir up labour unrest in a peaceful Anambra state, where there exists a cordial relationship between the government and the state workers.
Anambra under Soludo has set the standard for governance. With regular salary and pension payments, increased salaries within eight months in office, training of workers, and significant employment, it is clear that the welfare of workers is a top priority.
In contrast, other states, even those governed by Joe Ajero’s party, are failing to meet these basic obligations. It is time to recognize and appreciate the positive impact being made in Anambra.
Security agencies must launch an investigation into Joe Ajero’s statements and the motive behind the blackmail of Anambra state’s most labor-friendly governor.
Ajero needs to answer some pressing questions: Why now and why target Soludo’s Anambra? Why manipulate the peaceful Anambra state chapter of NLC to take industrial action immediately after failed negotiations in Abuja with the federal government over the minimum wage renegotiation?
