IPOB has demanded that the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) provide consistent power supply in the South East region or leave the area immediately.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, the group criticized EEDC for excessive estimated billing of electricity consumers in the South East.
Powerful accused EEDC of using deceptive tactics to mislead the people of the South East, denying their legitimate concerns about the lack of power supply and the company’s extortionate billing practices. He emphasized that the people of the South East have long been subjected to overbilling and estimated charges for electricity they have not received.
He stated that IPOB members are not foreigners but part of the South East community and are also victims of EEDC’s practices. Powerful demanded that EEDC provide regular power supply, install meters for free, and stop using unauthorized technicians to disconnect customers’ power supply for non-payment of bills for electricity they haven’t consumed.
He challenged EEDC to provide evidence of their claims, such as the terms of the MOU signed with the Anambra State Government, and the purported good works of their chairman, Emeka Offor.
Powerful insisted that EEDC must improve its service by providing adequate power and free prepaid meters across the South East, warning that if they fail to do so, they will be forced out of the region.
