The Cole family, known for their prominence in Victoria Island, Lagos, has publicly disavowed the recent purported marriage between their son, Taiwo, and actress/comedian, Wofai Ewa.
The union was said to have been conducted in a traditional ceremony in Ugep, Cross River State.
According to various sources, the family’s disapproval stems from the fact that the bride is older than their son.
In a statement released by the family patriarch, Kunle Cole, the family made it clear that they were unaware of any marriage plans and did not consent to or support the union.
The statement, which has since gone viral, explicitly states, “This serves to notify all acquaintances, family, and friends that the Cole family of Victoria Island, Lagos, are not aware of any marriage ceremony of our son, Taiwo Olakitan Cole; neither did we grant permission nor support in this regard.”
The statement further asserted, “As such, person(s) parading themselves as new members of the Cole heritage by virtue of this purported event, are not known nor accepted by the family.
All publications and documents being circulated about this are to be disregarded.”
The family’s rebuke came in response to circulated images and videos showing Taiwo participating in what seemed to be traditional marriage rites with Wofai, who hails from Ugep, Cross River.
Both Wofai and Taiwo shared marriage photos on their Instagram pages. One of the posts from Wofai read, “I found my happily ever after, and I said yes!! Chai!! Love is sweet o. Thank you guys for all the love and messages.”
Wofai, who boasts over a million followers on Instagram, is recognized as a chef, actress, and comedian.
