The Adamawa State Government has taken the decision to shut down primary and secondary schools following the confirmation of a measles outbreak that tragically claimed the lives of 42 children.
The outbreak, which occurred in the Mubi North and Gombi local government areas of the state, prompted the government’s swift response.
Felix Tangwami, the state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, confirmed the outbreak, stating that it was recorded in eight wards in Mubi and seven wards in Gombi local government areas.
He revealed that the death toll stood at 42 out of 131 affected persons in Mubi and 177 affected persons in Gombi.
In response to the situation, all 21 local government areas of the state, except Lamurde, have been put on alert.
The Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, also confirmed the closure of schools, both public and private, at the primary and secondary levels.
Dr. Pella stated, “Yes, we have ordered the closure of all schools at the secondary and primary levels.
This order, which takes immediate effect, will last for one week as we monitor the situation.”
