We Have Returned $760,000 Yahaya Bello’s School Fees Advance Payment To EFCC –American School Tells Nigerians

The American International School in Abuja has confirmed the refund of $760,000 paid in advance by the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for his children’s school fees.

This confirmation comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced on Friday that it had received the refund of $760,000, which was paid as advanced school fees by the former governor, according to Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the agency.

Greg Hughes, the Head of the school, clarified the situation in a statement on Saturday, stating, “Contrary to some media reports suggesting that the institution was still in the process of turning over the funds, the school clarified that it had actually done so, as recently confirmed by the EFCC Chairman.”

Hughes further explained, “Our compliance to remit these funds underscores our commitment to upholding institutional integrity and our respect for the national institutions of Nigeria.

Upon learning that the school fees we accepted in good faith were, in fact, part of an ongoing case with the EFCC, we turned over these funds in compliance with this federal commission’s request.”

Regarding the ongoing matter between Bello and the EFCC, the school added, “We will refrain from making any further comments at this time.”
