JUST IN: Tinubu Cannot Change The Economic Fortunes Of Nigeria – Suswam

Gabriel Suswam, former Governor of Benue State and Senator for Benue North-East Senatorial District, recently appeared on Channels Television’s Newsnight program, where he discussed various issues facing Nigeria.

He began by explaining the transition from being a governor to becoming a senator.

Suswam emphasized that as a governor, he was more visible within the polity due to his responsibility for a sub-regional government. However, as a senator, his visibility was naturally reduced, given that there are 109 senators.

Despite this, he remained committed to representing his senatorial district effectively, focusing on attracting development projects to the area.

When asked about the current state of the Nigerian nation, Suswam expressed disappointment with the economic policies of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

He criticized policies such as the removal of petrol subsidy, floating of the naira, and increases in electricity tariffs, arguing that they only worsen the economic situation for the masses.

Suswam also highlighted the leadership crisis within his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but remained confident in the party’s ability to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.

Regarding his party’s status as the opposition, Suswam acknowledged that the PDP had given the current government time to prove its capability but expressed disappointment in its performance.

He emphasized the need for a strong opposition to hold the ruling party accountable.

On the challenges facing the PDP, Suswam admitted that there were internal issues, particularly stemming from the aftermath of the party’s loss in the presidential election. However, he expressed optimism about the party’s future, stating that efforts were underway to address these challenges and reunite the party.

In response to questions about corruption allegations against past PDP members, Suswam emphasized the need for a holistic approach to tackling corruption, both in public and private sectors.

He also reiterated his commitment to the PDP, stating that his long-standing loyalty and experience within the party positioned him well to help rebuild and strengthen it.

Overall, Suswam presented himself as a capable leader within the PDP, confident in his ability to contribute to the party’s resurgence and provide a viable alternative to the current government.
