The Kano State High Court has scheduled the arraignment of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, his wife, son, and five others for April 17, 2024. They face charges related to an alleged bribery scandal amounting to $413,000 and misappropriation of funds totaling N1.38bn.
Previously, the Federal High Court in Kano ruled that the Kano Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission lacked jurisdiction to investigate Ganduje over a $5m bribery video, stating it was a federal matter under the purview of agencies like the EFCC.
However, Governor Abba Yusuf has urged the EFCC to disclose its findings regarding the alleged bribery video involving Ganduje. Yusuf emphasized the need for Ganduje to focus on his impending trial instead of deflecting attention.
The Kano State Government has initiated criminal proceedings against Ganduje and others, assembling 15 witnesses for the case. The trial is set for April 17, 2024, before Justice Usman Na’aba of the state High Court Number Four.
State Attorney General Haruna Dederi affirmed the filing of the case, noting that all parties would be served accordingly. He emphasized the inevitability of facing consequences for wrongdoing and clarified that the offences encompass both state and federal jurisdiction.
