To combat hardship in the land, the Nasrullahi Fatih Society (NASFAT) has concluded plans to feed one million people before the end of the ongoing Ramadan fasting.
NASFAT President, Abdulwaheed Ayodeji, spoke at the annual Ramadan lecture held at NASFAT Islamic Centre in Asese, Ogun State.
He stressed the need for collective action in supporting the government’s efforts to mitigate the economic challenges.
He announced the establishment of a charity fund to provide relief to both members and non-members of NASFAT and called on well-meaning philanthropists and the government to offer support.
Ayodeji revealed plans to expand the Ramadan feeding initiative nationally, with a target of feeding over half a million people across various states.
He said, “Since Monday when Ramadan started, we have been cooking and giving food, not necessarily in NASFAT, we take all these foods to various locations In Lagos.
“We target to feed 60,000 people in Lagos and likewise in other states. Nationally we want to feed around 500,000 people and by the time we finish Ramadan, NASFAT will have fed over a million people.”
According to the president, “As NASFAT’s Ramadan feeding programme gains momentum, it stands as a beacon of hope for countless individuals grappling with the harsh realities of the current economic climate.”
“Through collaborative efforts and unwavering faith, the organization aims to instill optimism and foster a spirit of community resilience, paving the way for a brighter future for Nigeria and its people,” he added.
Associate Professor at the Lagos State University, Dr Saheed Timehin, in his lecture emphasised the importance of maintaining hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
Drawing from Quranic teachings, Timehin encouraged Nigerians to embrace patience and perseverance, citing these virtues as essential tools for navigating through challenging times.
