It is no longer news that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is today marking his second year in office as the Executive Governor of Anambra. Recall that NewdayReporters had earlier reported APGA National Chairman’s message to the Governor on his second year anniversary.
Prof Chukwuma Soludo, was on the 17th of March two years ago sworn in as governor after an overwhelming victory in the Governorship Election that held the year before.
Since his swearing in, Soludo has continued to turn blind eye to the numerous calls by young people in the state for the rescue of the Onitsha Library.
Located at the center of the city the once active Library, now an eyesore having dilapidated over the years following lack of maintenance was said to have been built during the Old Eastern Region, by the then Governor Eastern Region, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu.
The library has in the past two years under Soludos leadership, faced same fate it had suffered in the past years with the governor showing no sign of care or attention to the dilapidated library. This has left many disappointed as many young people had hoped that going by Soludo’s background as a university lecturer, bringing the Onitsha Library back to life would have been top of his plans for the state but two years into his government, the reality is that the governor has continued to ignore the almost forgotten and non-functional library.
It remains to be seen what the next two years will be like with the governor at the helm of affairs in the state, however, untill then, the Onitsha Library remains an eyesore and a disgrace to the state Soludo governs.
Also, recall that earlier this year, NewdayReporters reported the unfortunate and devastating avoidable incident of the Ochanja Market Building Collapse.
It is important to remember that during the assessment visit of the governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, while addressing the people at the scene of the unfortunate incident, tried to call out the private contractor developing the site on behalf of the state but for some reasons failed to because according to him, he could not recall the name of the contractor, However, he assured Ndi Anambra that they will know the contractor that is building the structure that collapsed and killed innocent citizens of the state.
It is important to note also, that since the building collapsed, governor Chukwuma Soludo has yet to announce the name of the culpable contractor for all to know as he promised leading to calls by netizens seeking to the state government to do the right thing.
As Soludo marks his two years in office today, it is important to remind the Solution crooner that despite having made noticeable efforts to better the state than how he met it, expectations are over the roof especially with young people who expect him to exemplify transparency, commitment and hard-working in carrying out the sacred duty for which he was elected.
