Residents of Araromi-Okeodo, an agrarian community in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, are excited as power supply came to the community after over 90 years.
This was possible following an electrification project by an energy firm alongside the World Bank and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
While briefing journalists on Monday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the firm Olalekan Shogbesan said the community was selected for the project based on its viability.
He said the 50KWP hybrid solar mini-grid power plant which started in 2018 was enough to supply power to the community.
On his part, the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke who was represented at the opening of the project by his Commissioner for Energy Ademola Adeyemo said the government would support the company.
According to him, the Osun Government would also execute similar projects in other parts of the state.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of the community The Alara of Araromi Oke-Odo Oba Abass Gbadamosi expressed joy over the development.
He said the community has been without electricity since 1932 when it was founded. According to him, for over 20 years tried to get power to the area.
The traditional ruler promised that the community would ensure the facilities were well protected, adding that the people have resolved to patronise the company.
Some residents of the community told Channels Television that the electrification would boost socio-economic activities and also make life more conducive.
The community which produces several food and cash crops is also lacking other basic social amenities such as potable water, and good roads.
