The presidency says there are “no magic wand solutions” to the country’s problems, a fact Nigerians understand.
This is according to the Special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity Ajuri Ngelale who made the comment in the aftermath of his principal’s G-20 Summit attendance in India.
Ajuri, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said it would take time to tackle the challenges facing Nigeria.
“Nigerians are very brilliant people,” he said on Monday’s edition of the show when asked about his principal’s efforts to cushion the hardship in the country owing to the removal of subsidy on petroleum. “They understand that you don’t have magic wand solutions to their problems which have been in place for over a period of more than 50 years.
“They know that when you inherit a deficit you have to take out that deficit. That is why the president has been very consistent in his doings during campaigns and now in office. He did it in Lagos,” he added.
“He brought out a master plan. He said if we painfully and diligently implement this master plan it would take us there. And we know what Lagos is today. The present has distributed palliatives to states and now is trying to crush energy costs.”
No ‘Business As Usual’
His comment comes hours after the UAE lifted its visa ban on Nigerian travellers following Tinubu’s meeting with authorities of the Arab nation.
But Ajuri says the development does not mean it would be “business as usual”.
“Every agreement comes with mutual responsibility. There is no free lunch. What I mean by that is the notion that floodgates will open up and we go back to business as usual,” he maintained.
“That is not what Nigerians should expect. I want to be very clear about this so that everybody can understand.”
“Just a few bad eggs among our people giving a bad name to all of us which was a major sticking point as to how we got to this point,” the presidential aide added.
“So, what we have done as part of this process is to put in place measures to ensure there is effective diligence done on the part of both sides.”
