Students’ Congress: Two Months After, Chinedu Onwuadike Led SUG leadership of FCET Umunze Already Meeting Students’ Demands

Barely two months after the historic students congress organized by the Comr. Chinedu Onwuadike led SUG leadership of FCET Umunze, students expectations ere already been met.

The Congress which took place at the Alex Ekwueme Auditorium, Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze Permanent site was in itself historic, as no such congress has been held in the school for over two decades.

Following a successful SUG elections in February, an election that urshered in the current SUG leadership led by Comrade Chinedu Onwuadike (Charemon). The new president was determined to succeed and by such decided to do things differently.

SUG Congress of Federal College of Education Technical (FCET) Umunze held on the 18th of May, 2023.

He hit the ground running by starting off with a Congress. The president decided to conduct a students congress where his administration will have a one on one interface with the students to hear directly from them what they want the union under his leadership to do for them. It was on this premise that on the 18th of May, 2023, the Students Union Government of FCET Umunze converged the largest student congress in the institutions history.

The Congress which was chaired by the student union president was an interactive one with students given the platform to freely express themselves and say what they want the union to do for them.

Amongst the demands made by the students is; reduction in the price of transportation fare within the school, restoration of electricity, amongst others.

Two months apart, most of these demands have either been met or on the verge of being met. Among demands met are restoration of electricity on campus as the president followed up with the management who cleared the backlog of Electricity bill and had light restored. Also, the president have been able to successfully convince the transporters running on campus to reduce their fares to make it cheaper for students. He has also restored social life on campus one of the things students clamored for during the congress. This was achieved with the first ever SUG Freshers’ Night which his administration put together to lighten up the mood on campus and ease stress among students. So many already done within just two months as much more is expected in coming months.

Speaking to NewdayReporters, the SUG President re-emphasized his commitment to meeting the needs of students saying that their satisfaction is his priority.

In his words ” I am glad with the progress we have made so far, I am very committed to the satisfaction of the students community, their interest is my priority.”

He continued, “So far, over 60 percent of what they asked us to do at the congress have already been met and we are committed to meet all the demands and do even more.” He stated
